Comedy Plus Magic Equals Fun!

It is possible to have a great comedy magic show right here in sunny Florida! I really enjoy performing and some of you got to see that first hand today here in Melbourne. You know who you are and right now you are thinking to yourself how much fun we had. You may not remember what you were laughing about, but you will remember laughing and that is my goal.

 

Today I was looking though my facebook world and and saw this funny clip that Fred Moore shared. It is taken from the Conan O’Brien TV show of comedian Pete Holmes.  When you are ready for another chuckle, take a look at this clip.

 

This is really funny, maybe a little more for my friends that are magicians, but everyone will get a laugh. Thanks Fred for finding this clip.  Remember the noise you are supposed to make at the next magic show now! HA!

Put the “Show” back into Trade Show

When you have a particular product that you would like to introduce to new clients, suppliers and buyers the easiest way to get that introduction is through a trade show. This tactic gives a hands on experience and a one to one introduction, which results in quality leads and list building for future follow up and even same days sales, in some instances.  It is easy to accomplish this if you have a plan to implement, knowledgable staff, defined goals and a follow up procedure in place. Otherwise, this could end up just being a very costly day away from the office.

Even with this great plan in place, you will still need to get that stream of traffic to your booth. In my experience, it has proven that a great entertainer draws a crowd and pulls people in or makes people stop that normally may have just passed right by without even a second glance. Creating a spectacle stirs the curiosity within each of us and before long the freshly entertained crowd has forgotten about whatever problem they recently had and is ready to hear what you have to say. After all, you must have something special to tell them if you had enough foresight to bring such an ingenious entertainer!

This is where your most seasoned trained sales force must be ready to capitalize on the plan you have practiced and put into place before this weekend. When everyone knows exactly the part that they will be playing in the days event, you will surely have a very successful Trade Show experience.

Magic and/or balloon twisting can be great and can be customized to fit your needs. Remember planning is key and something that should be planned at least a few months in advanced. Make it count by putting the “Show” back into Trade Show!

5 Important Party Planning Tips Often Overlooked

When planning a party there are many things that we know you must take into account when trying to prepare that perfect event. For instance, making sure we have the cake and ice cream ready, party favors at the ready and games ready to play are some that we often think of first. What I would like to like to remind you about are the often overlooked ones that can really throw  a wrench into your whole time table if you would happen to forget them.

5. Scheduled time the Entertainer will appear should be approximately 1 hour after the party starts. This will account for late arrivals to your party and take away the stop in the show or the entertainment.

4. Have a list ready with someone who will write down each present as it is opened and the persons name who brought the gift. This makes the whole Thank You process easy the next day when you are trying to remember who brought what and the generic Thank You for the gift thank you that is sent out when you forget who did what.

3. Remember when hiring a balloon twister, account for 5 to 7 minutes per child of time that you will need the twister for and then add on another 30 minutes to an hour (depending on party size) for balloon surgery or replacement or wounded or KIA balloon creations.  In other words, if you are having the average size  party of 10-15 kids, then an hour and a half to 2 hours should be the time allotted for a good twister.  Maybe a little longer for one with advanced creations.

Have all pets safely kept away in another room if the balloon twisting will be inside.  Many kids running around with these balloon creations could scare them and animal versus balloon always results in animal winning that popping contest.  You won’t want your new puppy eating latex and getting sick or worse.

I know that many of you already know me and have even seen me perform many times for one event or another and are thinking that I must have bumped my head before adding this post, however I am serious.  From Birthday Party Moms to Full Time Professional Event Planners, there is someone right now looking around on the internet for the best price they can find for a magician.  While there is no Orbitz or Travelocity to find the best price on a magician, I’m here to to help you understand that you are going about it all wrong.  Price should not be the main concern, although I do understand that we all have budgets.  However, even budgets have a high end and a low end. While riding a bicycle from Miami to Jacksonville may save me a ton of money on gas, I think I’d rather spend the extra money and drive a car or even take the bus.

Let’s get back to the main point, Don’t Hire a Magician! What you really are looking for is a professional entertainer  If you think about it long enough, you know deep down that this is what you were really looking for to begin with and just didn’t realize it.  An Entertainer is someone that will take their audience on a magical journey in their mind.  The day to day troubles are forgotten for a moment as the mind is allowed to wonder and believe that something extraordinary has just happened which creates a child like amazement in each of us.  This is what memories are made of and when the weeks, months and years pass after your event, people will be talking of that moment and what a great time they had there.  When they reminisce about this event they will then remember who put this fantastic time together.  If this is a corporate event, what easier way could you be on someones mind all the time. Oh, I  know, that fancy pen with your logo on it they picked up at your booth won’t even make the trip home. In fact, they left it on the table for the waitress after signing their receipt. Or maybe the party favor bag you put together going to 5 different stores to find the right themed items for the birthday  party. Wrong, that was shredded in the car on the way home. I’ve worked the corporate world and spent many business trips in Las Vegas collecting all the freebies from the vendors only to give them to the kids when I got home and never looked at them again.  Speaking of kids, my have attended many parties in the past and they could never tell you what trinket they brought home before.  However, every single time my kids bring home a friend they all ask me to show them something magical because they remember the time I entertained them at their friends birthday or the show at the school or the 4th of July party or…the list goes on and on.

Hobe Sound Golf Course – Celebrities Fore Kids

It was a beautiful day to be out on the links, but we were having a blast in the club house.  Celebrities Fore Kids is a great organization that I have had the privilege of meeting today.  The purpose of Celebrities Fore Kids, Inc. is to improve the quality of life for children with cancer, and their families, who live on the Treasure Coast of Florida. Presently pediatric oncology services are not available in the Treasure Coast. To further this purpose, the organization works closely with agencies, physicians, schools, hospitals and pediatric care centers.  Their goal is to offer financial, emotional, and social support to these children and their families.

Celebrities Fore Kids

 

I got to meet some great families today and would like to think that I had a part in the big smiles that I saw on all their faces.  Lots of audience participation was on the venue today and I think it we can say that everyone had a chance to participate in one way or another.   I had so much fun as a Family Magician today and look forward to more of these opportunities.

Now begins the prepartion for next years event, since I have already been told to set the date.  Stu has even started to get prepare by pretending to be a very still rabbit. He really impresses me that when it is showtime he behaves so well.  Here at the house, I am constantly having to tell him to get out of the dog’s food dish.  My dog eats cheeseburger flavored dog food. Maybe Stu is trying to tell me he wants to go out to McDonalds!  Either way, he is one crazy rabbit here at home.

Corporate Holiday Entertainment

Pick a Winner!!

The holiday season is quickly approaching and event planners are stuck with the task of deciding what to do to entertain hundreds of employees.  The only problem is that, although holiday raffles or give aways are filled with excitement, when it comes to the end of the evening only a handful of people walk away happy with their door prizes.  Hiring a great Magical Entertainer may be the solution to your holiday blues.  Everyone gets to take away the memory of a fun filled show and many others get to take home the story of the time they got picked from the audience to participate.  The office will be swarming with anticipation for next years party long before the season is upon you.

The picture to the left was a holiday party I did earlier this year for United Space Alliance in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Like most corporate affairs the evening started off with a cocktail hour that morphed into a dinner.  While guests mingled and had a few drinks, I entertained them with some close up magic.  This is a lot of fun because it is magic that happens right in front of them or in their own hands.  What a great prelude to a magical stage show, because now they have an idea of my personality, skill and ability to entertain!  This really sets the stage for what is to come.

The next part of the corporate show is a cleverly crafted mix of comedy and magic that keeps each guest wondering what they just saw, while they laugh the night away.  This is the part that I really love because it gives me a chance to interact with someone on a large scale.  Chances are that they have never been on stage before or at least not as often as me.  Not to worry because they will still be the star and their 15 minutes of fame is about to begin.

As you can see my willing assistant has the biggest smile and is really enjoying the moment.  I can’t wait for next years event with this group.  We all had so much fun!

Magic Tricks or Magical Entertainment?

How much does a Magic Show cost?

Most people don’t realize that, when talking to a true professional entertainer, this question can be as vague as someone calling a local garage and asking how much it would be to fix their car that won’t run. There are different types of preparation, costs that are involved, and planning that must be done before every different type of show.  Therefore, here is some information to think about before you start your search for that perfect entertainer.

Most people I talk to really have no idea what to expect, but with some key information, together we can create a perfect event for their special occasion.  First of all, how many people will be attending your event?  Believe it or not, it makes a huge difference and this number will help develop what type of show would be best.  For instance, let’s say you are expecting 500 people, there is a cocktail hour before dinner and then time for a show afterwords.  It may be best to have close up magic during the cocktail hour so the crowd will be encouraged to stick around after eating for the entertainment.  Most laymen refer to this as David Blaine magic because of the familiarity of it on TV.

Next, would be the time.  Most kids magic shows are best to kept at 30 to 45 minutes, depending on age, because of attention span and restlessness.   Don’t be afraid to add some balloon twisting after a show, because this is something they can enjoy without sitting still! :)   After a family event, when time allows, I’m often asked to add this on as a last minute thought because parents have not thought what they were going to do with all these children in their home!

Finally, and probably least important is the price.  Prices will always vary depending on the entertainer, so ask for references.  In most cases, “you get what you pay for” couldn’t be more true.  I post my references from a source that checks who is sending in that particular testimonial.  Recently, I began video taping them to add even more validity.

Now, to answer the question…Magic Tricks or Magical Entertainment?

While reading my Testimonials, you will notice that everyone of them mention something about how well they were entertained and never mention that all I did was trick them.  This is the biggest compliment I could ever receive.  After all, I am a Magical Entertainer and with my comedic style, it is impossible to leave without a smile on your face.  Everyone wants to be entertained and that is my ultimate goal.
